The Birches Gallery, nestled in a grove of ancient jealously
preserved birch trees on the banks of the Grand ( Churchill ) River, is home to
the largest treasure - trove of Labrador Art.
Herb Brown, builder of this family home and gallery, has spent
more than quarter century as educator and promoter in Labrador and Newfoundland.
A native of British Columbia, the lure of " the Labrador " has
captured another pioneer spirit.
Unique and unknown, Labrador arts and artist have found their
market via The Birches Gallery, founded in 1994, more out of need than out of
any " game plan." Thanks to the skill and dedication of stone -
sculptors and the web, we are able to bring us to you, and
you right into the heart of LABRADOR.

Gallery Profile
The Birches Gallery is well into its second decade of
marketing and promoting Labrador art and artists. This art work expresses the
heart and soul of the Inuit, Innu, Métis and settler peoples of " The
Big Land Labrador".
As longtime owner and creator of the Birches Gallery, I am
pleased to announce that plans to sell have been altered and my current plan is
to continue and improve our service to both our customers and our produces
world wide. This is being done by satellite outlets and enhanced gallery spaces
at our location in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Herb Brown (owner).
The Birches Gallery represents
most of the leading artists and producers of high-end crafts in Labrador; these
include names like : Gilbert Hay, John Terriak, George Collins, Georgina Broomfield and over 40 others. Primary products include:
carvings, tea dolls, grass-work and a wide selection of other collector and
souvenir dolls and footwear, as well as
smaller collectibles. The past year has seen increasing sales to the U.S. and
European customers in both retail and wholesale markets.
The Birches Gallery ( proprietor, Herb Brown ) specializes in promotional
events such as exhibitions, trade shows, and international conventions, bringing
the traditions and cultures of the North to these venues through the medium of
art, music, and the visual arts with the artists themselves in attendance.
In the past 3 years, this has been done with
very large exhibition and performance productions at the CBC Broadcast Cente,
Toronto, at an international medical congress in Montreal as well as the
first Canadian aboriginal art exhibition in Scottsdale, Arizona. In Feb. 99, we
did a twelve day, five city tour of the province of Newfoundland and Labrador.
With our experience and expertise in taking our artists and performers ( as a
culture "package") from our region, we can offer foreign
embassies and trade missions a " product and service" that few
have duplicated. All of our productions in recent years have been joint-ventures
with local and regional industries, a partnership of the arts, culture and
business; we see this continuing and perhaps expanding in the future.
Our buyers include: tourists, corporate and government agencies ( gift market),
museums and art procurement organizations, corporate collections, galleries,
airport and hotel gift shops.
